OVERVIEW

We wanted to create an employee communication solution for our clients to replace various sources of communication such as email, intranet site, and internal messaging system that they were currently using.

USER RESEARCH AND REQUIREMENTS

Our team conducted interviews with users and identified that the main painpoint was that users felt overwhelmed with the lack of organization of their messages. With this platform taking the place of various sources of communications, we needed to ensure that the information was optimally organized and easy for the user to access.

USER FLOW

Our user has just received a new message from their manager, Dave. This user flow shows the process a user would undertake to retrieve this new message.

IDEATION

User Need Statement: Users need communications to be organized in order to not feel overwhelmed.

Driving off of this user need statement we derived this list of solutions for the user’s problem:

  • Group communications into different categories: new, urgent, action items, etc.

  • Allow user’s to mark messages: star, archive/hide, delete, save for later, move to folder

  • Allow user’s to change views to accommodate quantity of messages: card view, list view

  • Use a left menu to organize communications into categories **

  • Allow user’s prioritize messages from specific users, specific departments, content type

We decided to move forward with low fidelity wireframes with the idea of using a left sided menu to organize communications because this solution was something our users were accustomed to with other designs they have used therefore would cause the least amount of friction.

HIGH FIDELITY DESIGNS

The high fidelity wireframes provide an actual look at the overall design of the solution, allowing us to conduct usability tests to determine any unforeseen painpoints.
